New chickpea study reveals key traits for higher seed yield
Researchers studied 25 different types of chickpeas in two different growing conditions to find out which traits are important for high seed yield. They found that in one condition, traits like seed yield, plant height, and days to maturity were crucial, while in the other condition, harvest index and protein content were more important. They also discovered that traits like pods per plant and biological yield had a big impact on seed yield. Overall, they recommend selecting chickpea plants with high biological yield, pods per plant, test weight, and primary branches to achieve high seed yield.
