Composite girders with reduced height and slim floor girders are a good alternative to regular concrete beams. The design of these girders can be improved by considering the effective width of the concrete chord more accurately. Experiments and evaluations show that increasing the assumed ratios of the effective width can lead to better design for these girders in terms of their behavior during use.
