EU Common Agricultural Policy: Transforming Agricultural Industry for Future Sustainability.
The EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) was created in 1957 to protect and promote agricultural development in EU countries. Despite undergoing reforms, the CAP still accounted for 49% of the total EU budget in 2009. Funding for the CAP doubled from 1990 to 2009, but its share of the budget decreased by 13 percentage points. This policy was implemented due to the unique challenges faced by the agricultural industry, such as dependency on climate, market fluctuations, and high capital intensity.
