A study looked at how planting maize and blackgram together affects nodulation, nutrient uptake, and yield. They found that blackgram had the most nodules when grown alone, but maize + blackgram (2:1) had the highest maize yield. Weed management with alachlor increased nodules, but alachlor + hand weeding gave the best grain yield and nutrient uptake for both crops. Overall, planting maize and blackgram together in a 1:1 ratio gave the highest combined yield.
