Newly Discovered Halophilic Bacteria Could Revolutionize Extreme Environment Research
Halophilic archaea were isolated from Gomso solar saltern in Korea. The researchers used a high salt medium to isolate these archaea. They identified 7 strains belonging to Haloruburm, Halogeometriucm, Halobacterium, and Haloarcula genera. These archaea do not grow with nitrate under anaerobic conditions and require 12-30% salt for growth. This study provides insights into isolating halophilic microorganisms from extreme environments.
