Asian monsoon subsystems linked, impacting rainfall intensity across the region.
The relationship between different parts of the Asian summer monsoon was studied using weather data. The researchers found that when some parts of the monsoon are weak, other parts become strong, leading to changes in rainfall. For example, when the monsoon in Southeast Asia is strong, the monsoon in South Asia becomes weak, causing less rain in South Asia. On the other hand, when the overall monsoon in Asia is strong, both Southeast Asia and South Asia monsoons become strong, leading to more rainfall. These different parts of the monsoon are connected and affect each other's intensity and rainfall patterns.
