The study looked at different traits in upland rice to see which ones have the biggest impact on grain yield. They found that the total number of grains per panicle and spikelet fertility percentage are the most important factors for increasing yield. Traits like leaf length and panicle length had a negative direct effect on yield, but still contributed positively through other traits. Overall, selecting for filled grains and total number of grains per panicle would be the best way to improve rice yield.
