Large portion of Peruvian Amazon protected areas still allow human presence.
Peru protects a significant portion of its Amazon biome with 45 protected areas, covering about 23.4% of the region. However, over half of this area allows human presence and economic activities. The remaining areas are fully protected, making up 44.7% of the protected land. The oldest protected area in the Peruvian Amazon is Cutervo National Park, established in 1961.
