Strong stereotypes exist for increasing water flow in lever-tap operation.
Lever-operated taps were studied to see how people expect them to work. The researchers tested different tap designs and found that people have strong ideas about how to increase water flow, especially when the lever is facing outwards. But when it comes to decreasing water flow, people don't have strong expectations. This means that lever taps are not much better than cross taps when it comes to what users expect in terms of water flow control.
