Polluted Waters Threaten Public Health, Demand Urgent Policy Action
Efforts to clean up water pollution need to focus more on sources like farms and cities, not just big factories. These places are sending out a lot of harmful stuff, like chemicals and dirt, into our waterways. Right now, the rules are not strong enough to control this kind of pollution, unlike what's in place for factories that are easier to monitor. Even though some states have rules to prevent soil and dirt from urban areas going into waters, pollution from these places is still a big problem. Current policies meant to tackle this nonpoint-source pollution haven't been very successful in improving water quality, like they were supposed to. agriculteacher urban areas are a big part of why our waters are dirty.
