Boar Seminal Plasma Reduces Quality of Frozen Ram Spermatozoa
Adding boar seminal plasma to the freezing extender for ram sperm reduces post-thawing quality. Sperm motility and membrane integrity were lower when boar seminal plasma was included. Sperm with intact acrosome had worse membrane integrity with boar plasma, while those with damaged acrosome fared worse with ram plasma. Mitochondrial membrane potential was higher in the control group. There were fewer intact sperm when extended with boar plasma. Overall, contact with boar seminal plasma harmed ram sperm quality after thawing.
