New double glazing system slashes energy bills and boosts indoor comfort.
An innovative double glazing façade system with Parallel Slat Transparent Insulation Material (PS-TIM) was studied to improve energy efficiency and indoor comfort. By using plastic slats between glass panes, heat transfer between the panes was reduced, increasing thermal resistance while still allowing daylight in. The study found that an aspect ratio of 0.35 can eliminate convection, and PS-TIM can reduce thermal conductance by 35-46%. The thickness and properties of the slats affect smaller cell structures more than larger ones. Overall, PS-TIM can save energy and improve the design of glazing systems.
