New method predicts high-permeability regions for coalbed methane exploration.
Researchers used stress-field simulations, coalmine data, and CBM test results to predict areas with higher permeability for coalbed methane exploration in the Huainan coalfield. They found that regions with low stress values are likely to have coal beds with higher permeability due to the continuous presence of primary cleat sets. Tectonic coal formation from strain is a key factor in reducing permeability in coal reservoirs.
