A new rice variety called Wanhui 88 was created by crossing two types of rice plants. It has strong restoring ability, good disease resistance, and high grain quality. Two hybrid rice varieties, Gangyou 88 and K You 88, were developed from Wanhui 88 and released for commercial production in Chongqing. These hybrids covered a large area of land from 1998 to 2001.
