New Mining Method Preserves Coal Seam Integrity and Stability
The study looked at mining leftover coal in pillars to see if it was feasible. By analyzing how the coal seam moved and changed shape in a coal mine, researchers found that mining in pillars could work. Even when a large area of coal was left in pillars, the coal pillar could support the weight above it and prevent the coal seam from collapsing. This means that mining in pillars can be stable and safe.
