Greenhouse Tomatoes Thrive on 70% Less Water with Drip Irrigation
The study tested different ways of watering tomato plants in a greenhouse to see which uses the least water while still growing tasty tomatoes. They tried border, drip, and sprinkler watering methods. Drip irrigation used 70% less water than border watering and helped the tomatoes grow faster. With drip watering, the air was drier, the plants flowered earlier, and the yield of tomatoes increased by 6.9% compared to border watering. The yield with drip irrigation was even better, 10.7% more than with sprinkler irrigation. So, drip irrigation saved water and made the tomatoes grow better in the greenhouse.
