High density apple orchards in China yield more fruit with better quality.
The study looked at two apple orchards in central China to see how productive they were and how much light they received. One orchard had 54,000 shoots per area, with 76% coverage and a fruit yield of 3,263 kg. The other orchard had 93,000 shoots, 77% coverage, and a yield of 3,931 kg. The first orchard had 58% light interception and 65% good illumination, while the second had 73% interception and 35% good illumination. Both orchards had 85% first-grade fruit. The conclusion was that these types of apple orchards with M26 dwarf rootstock could be good for similar orchards in central China.
