Northwest Directional Failures Linked to Karst Sinkhole Formation in Coalfield.
The study looked at why sinkholes form in a coalfield in Huainan. By analyzing the structure of the area and where sinkholes are found, researchers found that faults in the rock create conditions for sinkholes to develop. These faults allow water to move underground, leading to large sinkholes forming in a northwest direction in the mining area.
