Study reveals factors behind dangerous landslides in Qinghai-Tibet mountainous area
The study analyzed a landslide in Qinghai Province to understand its causes and stability. They found that the landslide occurred due to poor rock quality, deep frozen soil, and seasonal temperature changes. The sliding body continuously moves downhill due to lower cohesion. Using calculations, they determined that the shallow sliding surface is deforming slowly, while the deep surface is mostly stable. However, under rainstorm or seismic conditions, the landslide becomes unstable. This research provides insights for managing similar geological disasters in the future.
