The researchers developed a method to accurately segment images by approximating the histogram envelope curve using a multinomial. By finding the minimum of the multinomial, they were able to determine the best segmentation threshold for images with different gray gradations. The experimental results showed that this method effectively fits the histogram envelope curve, leading to more precise image segmentation.
