Chilling temperatures and light exposure harm plant photosynthesis efficiency.
The study looked at how cold temperatures and different light levels affect the photosynthesis process in young Chinese strawberry tree leaves. They found that exposure to low temperatures and light caused changes in various factors related to photosynthesis, such as CO2 concentration, fluorescence levels, and photosynthesis rate. Moderate light levels made the damage to the photosynthetic system worse and slower to recover. The researchers suggest that the loss of activity in the photosynthetic apparatus is the main reason for the inhibition of photosynthesis in plants exposed to cold temperatures and light. This damage may be caused by the accumulation of certain molecules and the dissipation of energy.
