Summer monsoon in Tibetan Plateau brings record-breaking precipitation and flooding.
The study looked at summer monsoon rainfall on the northern slopes of the Tanggula Range in Tibet. Data from 1998 showed that the monsoon started around June 7 and lasted for 104 days, with 81 days of rain totaling 279.2 mm. The heaviest rainfall occurred in August, with a 5-day cycle of active and break phases. Local convection clouds were important for both the amount and frequency of rain at the observation site.
