Toxic Rivers Threaten Millions in China's Haihe Basin
The Haihe River Basin's water quality was checked in 2009 to see how healthy it was. They found that many rivers in the area had too many nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. These high levels can harm the water quality. Most of the seriously affected rivers were in Beisan, Ziya, and Zhangwei River System. Only 3% of the rivers were in good shape, while 44% were in trouble due to too many nutrients. The study suggests we should improve the oxygen levels and control nutrients to make the rivers healthier in the Haihe River Basin.
