The 2020 Global Biodiversity Targets were established to create a plan for conserving biodiversity worldwide. The targets were discussed and agreed upon at a global meeting in Japan in 2010. The plan set goals and timelines for protecting biodiversity and provided a framework for countries to set their own targets. The study analyzed the views of countries on the targets, explained what the targets mean, and reviewed how to measure progress towards them. Suggestions were made to improve monitoring of biodiversity and create standards for assessment.
