Toxic Metals Accumulating in Pristine Peatland, Threatening Ecosystems and Human Health
The study looked at the elements in peat from the Jinbei bog in the Changbai Mountains. They found that heavy metals like Mn, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cr, and Co have increased over time due to pollution and metal consumption. The distribution of elements in the peat profile shows changes in the environment. The peat bog is mainly influenced by rainwater, and certain elements like Na and K are affected by plant accumulation. The study used samples from the peat bog and analyzed the elements to understand the environmental implications.
