The reform of the RMB exchange rate system has helped improve the misalignment of the RMB exchange rate. By creating a model to calculate the misalignment degree, it was found that the exchange rate system in place before 2005 hindered the adjustment of the real exchange rate. However, reforms in 2005 and 2010 have started to ease this misalignment issue, bringing the exchange rate closer to its equilibrium rate.
