The researchers studied soil moisture, carbon, and nitrogen in different Stipa grassland communities in Inner Mongolia. They set up plots in four locations and took soil samples at two different scales. By analyzing the data, they found that these nutrients varied across the different Stipa communities. The study aimed to understand the spatial differences in soil resources within the grassland ecosystems of the Inner Mongolia Plateau.
