A new design principle inspired by living systems was used to automate product conceptual design. The approach mimicked the structure and growth process of cells. A model supporting this design process was created. The key aspects discussed were processing human needs and designing products like cells grow. A system for growth conceptual structure design was developed. A case study on fixture design showed that this approach is efficient and practical.
