Materialized views are used to quickly answer queries by reducing the number of views to search through. Two methods, level index and view merging, are used to make this process more efficient. A level index helps find potential views to answer a query faster, while view merging reduces the total number of views to optimize the search. A heuristic search algorithm is used to find the best way to rewrite a query in a short amount of time. These methods have greatly improved the performance of the DM_DW data warehouse.
