Wheat Farmers Boost Yields by Planting at Optimal Time and Density
In a study on winter wheat cultivation, the sowing date and planting density greatly influenced tillering and yield. Tiller number per plant decreased with later sowing dates but increased with higher planting densities. The best results were seen when sown on October 9 with a density of 1.95 million plants per hectare. The sowing date also affected grain yield, with the best outcomes observed when sown between October 9-16. Similarly, higher planting densities of 1.95-2.70 million plants per hectare resulted in increased yields. Therefore, for winter wheat cultivar Yumai 49, the optimal sowing date is October 9-16 with a planting density of 1.95-2.70 million basic seedlings per hectare.
