Polluted Lakes Revived Through Ecological Engineering, Boosting Water Quality and Biodiversity
An ecological engineering project was done in Nanhu Lake to control eutrophication. By removing phosphorus through harvesting plants and fish, and fixing it in molluscs, the lake's water quality improved. Phosphorus levels decreased, phytoplankton decreased, and more species appeared. Molluscs and fish play important roles in controlling lake eutrophication. Ecological engineering is a great way to manage eutrophication in urban lakes.
