Massive reclamation activities causing disappearance of salt marshes in Jiangsu coast.
Salt marshes along the Jiangsu coast have changed significantly due to large-scale reclamation activities. By analyzing satellite images and GIS data, researchers found that the area of salt marshes initially increased slightly before sharply decreasing. Most salt marshes now concentrate between Xinyang Harbor and Doulong Harbor. Reclamation caused 85.4% of salt marsh disappearance, impacting native species. Reclaimed areas may support salt marsh expansion, but sustainability depends on preserving existing marshes and limiting future reclamation.
