Lime treatment boosts soil stability, paving way for safer airport construction.
This study tested how adding lime affects the compaction of expansive soil from an airport site. They used a special compaction machine in the lab and found that adding more lime makes the soil denser but needs more water. The soil's height also affects how dense it gets. The soil gets denser over time but levels off after 48 hours. The most important factors for soil density are water content, how long the soil is wet, and the soil's height. They also looked at the soil under a microscope to see how the lime changed it.
