Polluted Changjiang Estuary Threatens Millions with Toxic Water
The water quality in the Changjiang estuary was analyzed using data from 2002. Overall, the water quality meets the third standard, but some areas have worse quality. Pollutants like TN, COD, lead, chlorine, and oil were found. The northern branch has worse water quality than the southern branch. Urban areas have worse water quality than rural areas. Water quality is better during high tide and in riffles. Pollution sources include domestic and industrial sources.
