New method prevents tailings dam disasters by draining underground water.
A new tailings pond is being built at Yangla copper mine using the centerline method. To ensure the stability of the 185.0 m high tailings dam, a computer program called 2D-FLOW was used to simulate how water seeps through the dam. The simulation considered different scenarios, like having a drainage system or varying beach widths. The results showed that installing a drainage system in the dam helps to drain out underground water, keeping the water level low and improving the dam's stability.
