New Forage Crops Boost Livestock Nutrition and Energy Levels!
Sudan Grass-Wancao 2 and Zea mexicana forage crops were compared in a study. The researchers found that cutting the grass at different frequencies affected the yield and quality of the forage. Wancao 2 had higher dry matter yield and crude protein content compared to Zea mexicana. The total energy content was highest in Wancao 2 when cut three times. The digestibility of acid detergent fiber was better in Wancao 2. After silaging, Wancao 2 had higher crude ash and acid detergent fiber content. Overall, the differences in forage crops were due to their biological characteristics and how they were managed.
