Nitrogen fertilization boosts alfalfa growth and protein content significantly.
Nitrogen application on alfalfa plants increases the activity of enzymes involved in nitrogen metabolism and boosts protein content in leaves. The highest enzyme activity was seen with 103.5 kg·hm2 of nitrogen. The relationship between nitrogen level and total protein content follows a quadratic equation. Nitrogen accumulation is linked to enzyme activity and soluble protein content, indicating that nitrogen fertilization enhances nitrogen metabolism in alfalfa plants.
