Grassland vegetation boosts soil quality in Loess Plateau, study finds.
Re-vegetating the Loess Plateau is important for the environment and affects soil quality. A study looked at different vegetation types in the area. Grassland had the best soil properties. Most nutrients decreased with soil depth, except for pH and total P. Chinese pine improved soil quality in deeper soil layers, while black locust improved it in shallower layers. However, soil quality decreased in deeper layers after 51 years of black locust growth.
