The third test of water and sediment regulation on the Yellow River aimed to improve sediment behavior in the Xiaolangdi Reservoir area. By creating artificial density currents and utilizing reservoir storage, sediment discharging capacity increased and siltation decreased. Sediment disturbance in critical areas reduced sedimentation in the lower channel and increased flood capability. The test successfully washed out millions of cubic meters of sediment, rationally regulating sediment behavior in the reservoir tail reach and downstream sections.
