Macropores in soil slow down water and solute movement significantly.
The study looked at how water and solutes move through soil with large pores. They did experiments in the field with both undisturbed and disturbed soil. The results showed that water and solutes moved faster in the undisturbed soil compared to the disturbed soil. The solute appeared deeper in the soil faster in both types of soil. The disturbed soil had lower concentrations of nitrate compared to the undisturbed soil.
