Tonggu channel faces increasing siltation, threatening waterway navigation and ecosystems.
The Tonggu channel was studied to understand how sediment moves in the water. By looking at data from 2008 to 2009 and the water and sediment in the area, researchers found that about 5.73 million cubic meters of sediment flow back into the channel each year. The sediment builds up more during the rainy season and in the main part of the channel.
