Soil salinity affects plant diversity in wetlands. Reclamation of tidal flats in Hangzhou Bay changed vegetation. Inside seawall had more diverse plants dominated by mesophytes. Soil sodium content was higher inside seawall. Spartina alterniflora was dominant inside seawall. Soil sodium content negatively correlated with species diversity. Soil sodium content affected dominance of specific plant species. Land reclamation decreased soil salinity and changed plant diversity in wetlands.
