Grazing intensity impacts desert steppe soil seed bank diversity and richness.
The researchers studied how grazing intensity affects the soil seed bank in a desert steppe. They found that as grazing intensity increased, the total density and species similarity between standing vegetation and soil seed bank decreased. The soil seed bank was mainly found in the top 20cm of soil, with annual and biennial plants increasing in plots with moderate and high grazing. Species richness, diversity, and evenness decreased with higher grazing intensity.
