College students with economic disadvantage have lower self-esteem than peers.
College students with economic disadvantage have lower self-esteem compared to their peers. The study used a self-worth scale to collect data from 266 disadvantaged students and 279 normal students. Results show that disadvantaged students scored lower on self-esteem measures SS1 and SS4. Differences were also found based on sex and grade level. Overall, students with economic disadvantage have lower self-esteem than their peers. The study suggests exploring the psychological impact of economic disadvantage and societal comparisons to understand these differences and offers educational recommendations.
