Shrimp, Bivalve, and Seaweed Polyculture Reduces Nitrogen and Phosphorus Pollution
The study looked at how nitrogen and phosphorus are used in shrimp, bivalve, and seaweed polyculture systems. Shrimp feed provided most of the nitrogen and phosphorus in monoculture, but less in polyculture. Harvested biomass contained a significant amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in polyculture. Most nitrogen and phosphorus ended up in the sediments, with less in polyculture compared to monoculture.
