Turning Salty Coal Water into Clean Drinking Water Saves Lives!
The researchers used a pilot scale UF-RO membrane process to treat high salinity coal bed methane water for reuse as drinking water. The UF technology helped in pretreating the water before the RO process, resulting in significant removal rates of pollutants like CODMn, TDS, and Cl-. The RO process further removed a high percentage of pollutants, making the water safe for drinking according to sanitary standards. The permeate water was found to be free of organic substances. The average cost of treating the water was CNY 4.03 per ton.
