The researchers studied how adding NaHSO3 to Dunaliella salina affects its growth and pigment content. They found that NaHSO3 can boost the growth of the algae and increase the levels of chlorophyll and carotenoids. The best results were seen at a concentration of 0.07mM·L-1. NaHSO3 increased Chl b more than Chl a, leading to a decrease in the ratio of Chl a to Chl b. The biomass of Dunaliella salina was closely related to the levels of photosynthetic pigments, with Chl b showing the strongest correlation. Overall, adding NaHSO3 can help improve the growth and pigment accumulation of Dunaliella salina.
