Mountain land-use policy threatens ecological balance and rural livelihoods
The study looked at a land-use policy called 'increasing vs. decreasing balance' in mountain areas. Using remote sensing and field surveys in Beijing's Mentougou District, researchers found that implementing this policy may lead to more construction land but also loss of ecological land. The quality of new cultivated land in mountain areas may be lower, affecting farming decisions. To promote rural construction land consolidation in mountains, it's important to allocate construction land wisely and improve land use efficiency based on resources and economic development.
