Interdecadal shift in summer monsoon intensifies drought/flood risk in Northern China.
The researchers studied how the movement and strength of the East Asian Summer Monsoon affect rainfall in Northern China over the past 50 years. They found that the monsoon's northern boundary has shifted over time, impacting droughts and floods in Northern China. By analyzing data, they created a monsoon intensity index to better understand this relationship. They discovered that the monsoon's intensity influences precipitation in July and August on both long-term and short-term scales.
