Coastal plant areas crucial for biodiversity protection in Inner Mongolia-Xinjiang lakes.
Aquatic plants and benthic bugs in lakes on the Inner Mongolia-Xinjiang Plateau were studied in 2008. Different lakes had different types of plants and bugs. Lake Wuliangsuhai had the most plant and bug species. Bugs were more diverse near plants than in open water. Bugs were not found in strong currents. Bugs liked areas with lots of plants and calm water. Overall, the lakes had low similarity in plant and bug species. Protecting areas with lots of plants and calm water is important for the whole lake system.
